Everything You Should Know About Finding A Bra That Fits Perfectly

Every woman has probably experienced frustration in trying to find a perfect bra as it is one of the hardest things to shop for.

Finding the right bra may take a little bit of work but at Fabwoman.com we have put together few tips to help make that easier.

1. Take your measurements

Learn how to do the math, so you can figure out your own dimensions and watch your whole bra experience changed for the better.

  • Measure Your Band Size

With your bra on, measure firmly around your rib cage, directly underneath your breasts. The tape measure should be horizontal around your body and should not drop in the back. This is your band size.

  • Measure Your Cup Size

With your bra on, hold the tape measure firmly around the fullest part of your bust i.e across the nipple. Make sure the tape measure is taut and straight. This is your cup size. Do this in front of a mirror so that you can make sure the measuring tape isn’t dipping down in the back.

  • Subtract the number from your band size (38 – 36 = 2). The result will indicate your appropriate cup size, based on the following guide:

0 = AA

1 = A

2 = B

3 = C

4 = D

5 = DD

6 = DDD

2. Make sure it fits

The mistake many of us make is settling for a bra that’s close enough, rather than holding out for one that’s perfect. How to know if you’ve got an ideal one? The most important consideration is comfort. Here’s what to check for next:

Here are some basic criteria to look out for:

  • The bra feels comfortable. This is hands-down the most important criteria.
  • It lies flat against your back without riding up or sitting too low. It’s okay if the band digs into your skin a little bit
  • Since it should be tight, but it should never feel restricting or even painful.
  • The gore (the part between the cups in front) should lie against your chest (as opposed to float between them).
  • Also watch out for breast tissue spilling out on the sides (that’s usually a sign for a too-small cup or a shape mismatch).
  • The cups should lie flat against your breasts without gaping at the top or causing spill-over.
  • The straps should be tight enough to stay on your shoulders but without digging into the skin.
