Hannah Beachler’s Oscar Nomination For ‘Black Panther’ Made History & Here’s What You Should Know About Her

Hannah Beachler is an American film production designer who has worked on several movies like Creed, Moonlight, Black Panther, and many other blockbusters.

Beachler, who recently got nominated for her design direction on the superhero movie “Black Panther” at the Academy Awards (OSCARS) for Best Production Design, is the first African-American production designer to be nominated in that category.

Black Panther, which also got 7 nominations at the Academy Awards, was the highlight of Hannah Beachler’s career.

1. Hannah Beachler grew up in Centerville, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Cincinnati, studying fashion design.

2. She was responsible for designing Front Street Gym, which appears prominently in Creed in 2015.

3. Beachler is the first-ever female production designer of a Marvel film.

4. She studied film at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

5. She designed Beyoncé’s 2016 TV special & visual album, Lemonade.

6. Beachler first worked with Coogler on his first feature, Fruitvale Station, which went on to win awards: the Grand Jury Prize for Best Film and the Audience Award for Best Film at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013.

7. Beachler was lead curator for the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition, Before Yesterday We Could Fly: An Afrofuturist Period Room, which opened in 2021.

8. She worked on the production design of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé in 2023.
