The internet was buzzing yesterday with the announcement of the nomination of Aisha Ahmad by Buhari as the next CBN Deputy Governor.

Ahmad who has years of experience in the banking sector has proven she has what it takes to bring the desired change to Nigeria.

Below is the biography of Aisha Ahmad.

Early Life

Aisha Ndanusa Ahmad was born on the 26th of October  1976 in Lagos and is a native of Niger State.

She attended St. Catherine’s Primary School, Surulere Lagos, and Zarumai Primary School, Minna Niger State, before proceeding to Federal Government Girls’ College, Bida, for her secondary education.

Aisha graduated from the University of Abuja, after which she bagged an MSc in finance and management from the Cranfield School of Management in the UK, as well as an MBA with a specialisation in finance from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. She is an INSEAD Certified Board Director and a recipient of the Economic Development Certificate from the Harvard Kennedy School.

She is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and she holds the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Aisha is well respected for her experience in the private banking space having managed many High Net-worth Individuals (HNI’s) throughout her career.


Mrs Ahmad was the Head, Consumer and Privilege Banking at the bank. She was previously the Head, the Retail Banking Directorate.

Joining Diamond Bank in June 2014 as a Deputy General Manager and the Head, Retail Financial Services Division, she later went on to oversee Privilege Banking, Consumer Banking Group, Retail Assets, Cards, and Customer Engagement & Insight.

Prior to joining Diamond Bank, Aisha worked with Stanbic IBTC Holdings where she served in numerous capacities as Head, High Net-worth Individuals; Head, Private Client Services and Deputy Head, Private Client Services between 2009 – 2014.

She had also worked with other companies such as Zenith Capital Limited as Head, Business Development, Bank of New York Mellon (UK), Synesix Financial Limited (UK), Zenith Bank Plc as Head, Retail Banking Unit, and NAL Bank Plc as Head, Private Banking. She also worked with First Interstate Bank Plc as Executive Assistant, Treasury Group, Manstructs Group Nigeria Limited as Group Accountant and Z. O. Ososanya & Co.

The delectable Aisha is a former chairperson of the executive council of Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), a Nigerian non-profit organisation, established in 2001.

She is also a board member of the SOS Children’s Hospital.

Personal life

She is married to Abdallah Ahmad, a retired brigadier-general. They have two sons.

The Presidency on Thursday announced the nomination of Aisha Ahmad, to take over as Deputy Governor Central Bank of Nigeria in charge of economic policy from Sarah Alade who retired in March.
