On Monday, March 19, 2018, Michel Sidibe, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and UNAIDS Executive Director, will appoint wife of Nigeria’s president, Aisha Buhari as a special Ambassador for the Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV&Promotion of Treatment for children living with HIV in Nigeria.

This was made know by Mr Charles-Martin Jjuuko, Communications and Global Outreach Officer. He said the appointment to Wife of the President was in recognition of her passion in the advocacy for the rights of vulnerable women and girls in the country.
Jjuuko, however, noted that in her new role, Aisha Buhari will advocate for increased access to antenatal care services, HIV testing for all pregnant women and their linkage to adequate care.
She was chosen for the position by The Joint UN Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS)
