Following her controversial loss to Jamie Lee Curtis at the Oscars earlier this year, Angela Bassett will receive an honorary ‘Lifetime Achievement’ Oscar Award.

The Academy is set to honor Bassett, Mel Brooks, and Carol Littleton, and Michelle Satter with honorary Oscar Awards for their “exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or outstanding service to the Academy,” Variety reports.

“The Academy’s Board of Governors is thrilled to honor four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans,” Academy President Janet Yang said in a statement. “Across her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting.”

Bassett received her second-ever nomination earlier this year for Best Supporting Actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Despite two nominations and over 40 years in the industry, the veteran actress has yet to secure an Oscar Award for a performance.

Her 2023 nomination for Black Panther also marked the first time a woman from a superhero movie received such recognition, Variety reports.
