Award winning writer and author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie recently opened up about her experience as a black woman in the American educational system in an interview the editor of The New Yorker, David Remnick.
She revealed that her first experience with racism was when she wrote the best essay in a class and her professor was so surprised that a black lady could write something as good as that.
” i find racism funny, absurd, infuriating”, that moment made me realise what been black meant, it meant that you are not supposed to write the best essay in class, it also meant that black achievement is considered so rare and i was irritated by that”.
