Two Nigerian students, Mmesoma Okonkwo and Oluwabukolami Adeyemi have put Nigeria on the world map following their outstanding performance in the 2022 Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge AS Level Examinations as they received the British Council Outstanding Cambridge Learner’s Awards.

17-year-old Okonkwo received the British Council Outstanding Cambridge Learner’s Award (Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education Top in the World 2022) for outstanding performance in English as a Second Language while 18-year-old Adeyemi had the highest mark in the world in Cambridge International AS Level Law.

Both students of Chrisland School emerged winners out of the millions of students that wrote the exam worldwide.

Speaking to Nigerian Tribune, Okonkwo reveals her plans to study Business Administration either in the United States or the United Kingdom. Adeyemi on the other hand hopes to study Law and already has several offers from some UK universities.

In a separate interview, Mmesoma whose feat has gained widespread joy said English has always been her favourite subject although she didn’t believe that she was the best in the world until she saw the award with the tag “First in the World” on it.

She said:

“When my colleagues told me I was the best in the world, I thought they were just exaggerating until I was invited to the ceremony and confirmed it myself”.
