All You Should Know As Ex-Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke Becomes Commissioner In Dominican Republic + How Nigerians Are Reacting To It

The extradition of Diezani Alison-Madueke has received a major setback following her new appointment in the Dominica Republic.

The ex-Nigerian Petroleum Minister has been appointed commissioner of Trade and Commerce for the Commonwealth Dominica.

Diezani is awaiting trial over alleged corruption including fraudulent ownership of about 76 properties in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, valued at about N23 billion.

She also has a 14-count charge case against her bordering on stealing and concealment of $153million already preferred against her by the EFCC.

Recall that $40 million worth of jewelry was recovered by the FG in July 2017, a $37.5 million home, $2.7 million and $218K were recovered from her in August 2017 while $153.3 million was recovered in Jan 2017.

A top source said: With the diplomatic passport, she is immune to arrest by any law enforcement agency, including the Interpol,”.

“Before leaving the office on May 28, 2015, she had perfected a script with the office of the Prime Minister, Commonwealth of Dominica.

“She lobbied to be appointed as Trade and Investment Commissioner with effect from June 1, 2015.

“The lobby actually worked. In a letter dated May 29, 2015, and signed by Prime Minister Roosevelt Kerry, Diezani was offered not only the citizenship of Dominica, a Caribbean Island but also an appointment as Trade and Investment Commissioner.

The passport contained 32 pages and in one of the pages, a restraining statement against arrest is made.

The restraining order reads as follows: “The President of the Commonwealth of Dominica requests and requires in the Name of the Government of Dominica all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance and afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary.”

“A diplomatic passport issued on May 21, 2015, with an expiry date of May 20, 2020, came with the offer of appointment,” the document from the EFCC reads.

Diezani was issued a diplomatic passport, DP0000445 by the Dominican Government on May 21.2015 shortly before the handover to President Muhammadu Buhari by ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

The restraining order reads as follows: “The President of the Commonwealth of Dominica requests and requires in the Name of the Government of Dominica all those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance and afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary.”

Here is how Nigerians are reacting to it.
