Nigeria’s female basketball team, D’Tigress has qualified for the quarterfinals stage at the Paris 2024 Olympics after they beat Canada 79-70.
Their final group game was held at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France, on Sunday.
With this win, they become the first African team(both women and men) to pass the group phase at the Olympics.
The Rena Wakama-led ladies bounced back from losing to the French team in their second game after winning Australia in the first game.
Nigeria lost the second and fourth quarters 23-19, 24-19 respectively, and won the third 23-5 which proved to be the difference. The first quarter was tied at 18 points each.
Ezinne Kalu led scoring for Nigeria with 21 points, Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah had 7 rebounds to lead that section, while Promise Amukamara had the most assists, 6.
