6 Things You Need To Do If You Want To Cure Your Sleep Disorder

A sleep disorder is a condition that disrupts normal sleep patterns, affecting the quality or duration of sleep, such as insomnia, sleep apnea, etc.

When you’re deprived of sleep, your brain can’t function properly, which in turn affects your emotional state. If it continues long enough, it can lower your body’s defenses, putting you at risk of developing chronic illness.

If you find it difficult to sleep properly and soundly, here are 6 effective natural ways to get rid of the sleep disorder.

1. Avoid sleeping immediately after eating

Most people eat when they’re ready to sleep or lie down immediately after their meal, which can prompt a sleep disorder. Make sure that you go to bed three to five hours after having a light dinner. Heavy dinners may cause you to toss and turn instead of dropping off to sleep because your metabolism is busy digesting instead of resting.

2. Take a bath or shower

Preferably, a cold bath would give the best soothing feeling, but some people can’t stand cold water, so a warm bath will do. Add salts (to soothe and relax achy muscles), a few drops of lavender oil, or set up your aromatherapy kit.

3. Listen to soothing music

Playing your favorite music softly while taking a bath or in the shower has been proven to help you get rid of anxiety and stress and help you relax. Just as a lullaby helps babies or little children sleep easily, soothing music also helps adults have a good sleep.

4. Avoid using your phone before sleeping

Most people have their phones with them when they want to sleep; it’s like a time for many to unwind. They scroll through social media to get the gist of the day after a long day at work, but it’s sure to interrupt their sleep.

Stop using electronics in the bedroom! Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) are known to interrupt sleep cycles and are responsible for a host of symptoms, such as muscle pain and weakness, fatigue in the mornings, heart palpitations, irritability, allergies, and, most importantly, the weakening of your immune system.

5. Create a comfortable environment

Make sure that your bed is comfortable. A firm mattress is usually favorable, especially for those with aches and pains. However, the most important part is that you are comfortable.

If you still cannot sleep even after the lights have been switched off and you find your mind working busily, try this relaxing exercise by stretching your body and loosening all your muscles. Then stretch your arms above your head, and let your loosened muscles fall into place naturally. Take deep breaths slowly and rhythmically—inhale, exhale.

6. Don’t think or engage your mind

Tomorrow is another day; stop thinking about it so you can have a good sleep. Try not to think. Even try not to talk to yourself; women often do that when they can’t sleep. Pretend that you are already asleep. You are slowly going to find yourself drifting off to sleep.
