The news of her death was confirmed by her daughter, Bisi Aisha, a soldier.

In the post, the iconic thespian’s daughter wrote, “May your soul Rest In Peace mummy.”


Here are some things to know about her.

1. She was born Sidikat Odunkanwi on November 15th 1960.

2. Her father was a soldier while her mother was a petty trader.

3. She is a native of the Iwo Local Government area of Osun State.

4. She attended her primary school at Oke-Ola Primary School in Osun State before she moved to Port Harcourt, her father’s military base where she attended St. Andrew’s Secondary School.

5. Iyabo Oko developed an interest in acting during her teenage years. Due to her love for acting, she ran away from home on several occasions to attend a theatre group despite her father’s refusal.

6. In 1973, she started her acting career as a teenager under Eda Onileola Theatre Troupe, Oga Bello’s Theatre Group.

7. She shot into the limelight for her role in the movie titled Oko; produced by Oga Bello. It was this movie that earned her the stage name ‘Iyabo Oko’.

8. She went on to feature in numerous movies some of which include, Ayitale, Idunnu Okan, Mayowa, Okobo, Dimeji.

9. In 2015, she was diagnosed with Ischemic stroke which made her take a break from acting.

10. In 2016, she was honored with the Special Recognition Award at the City People Entertainment Awards for her contribution to the growth of the Yoruba Movie Industry.

11. She was flown overseas in 2018 for proper treatment with the help of her son.

12. The late actress was also a filmmaker and produced movies such as; Olufunke, Illu Ominira, Okegogo, and Ololufe, among others.

13. On two different occasions, Iyabo Oko was confirmed to be dead but the reports were refuted.

 14. She was a mother of two children and a grandmother.
