Meet Khadija Omar, The First Ever Hijabi Beauty Queen To Make Top 13 in Miss World + 9 Facts About Her


Khadija Omar made history as the first hijabi beauty queen to reach the Top 13 in the pageantry at the recent 70th Miss World beauty pageant in Puerto Rico.

She first made headlines in 2021 when she was named the first-ever Miss World Somalia.

“I can’t believe I’m the first Miss World Somalia. Anyone who knows me knows how long I’ve desired to compete in pageants and represent hijabi girls worldwide. To see that dream come true is not short of an honour. I hope this inspires young hijabi girls and reminds them that they can dream as big as they aspire,” she had said in an interview.

Here are a few facts about Khadija.

1. Khadija is 20 years old.

2. She is originally from Mogadishu, Somalia.

3. Khadija grew up in a refugee camp in Nairobi, Kenya before moving to Canada.


4. She is currently pursuing a Psychology major at York University in Canada and she is expected to graduate in 2024.

5. She’s is a professional makeup artist.

6. On November 16, 2021, she was officially appointed as Miss World Somalia 2021.

7. She worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the U.N. Association of Uganda, and Somali Youth Action in raising awareness and funds for the climate refugees in Somalia as Miss World Somalia 2021.

8. She is 5’6″ tall.

9. Her role model is hijabi model, Halima Aden.
