Grammy-Winning Singer And ‘Ex-American Idol Contestant’, Mandisa Found Dead At Her Home


Mandisa’s cause of death is still unknown.

Contemporary singer Mandisa, a contestant on American Idol and a Grammy winner, is dead. She was 47 years old.

A representative for the singer said that Mandisa was found dead in her home in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday. The representative said the cause of Mandisa’s death was not yet known.

“At this time, we do not know the cause of death or any further details,” the statement reads. “We ask for your prayers for her family and a close-knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.

Officials with the Franklin Police Department have opened an investigation into her passing.

Born Mandisa Lynn Hundley in California, she began singing from a young age in church.She studied vocal jazz at American River College in Sacramento, California, before attending Fisk University in Nashville, where she was a member of the famed Fisk University Jubilee singers.

Mandisa got her big break as an American Idol contestant in 2006, finishing in ninth place. Her elimination, however, didn’t stop her from pursuing her dreams.


Mandisa released her debut album in 2007 called “True Beauty,” which earned her her first Grammy nomination and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart.
