Meet The Two Women Contesting Against Tinubu, Peter Obi, Others At The 2027 Presidential Elections

The final list of candidates for the 2027 presidential elections has been unveiled by INEC, and out of the 18 candidates, which include Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi, only two female candidates are on the list.

The two female presidential candidates are Ada Okwori of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Nkem Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM)

1. Ada Okwori

Ada Elizabeth Frederick Okwori, widely known as Ada Fredrick or Ada Okwori, is the National Democratic Party (NDP) presidential candidate for the election of 16 January 2027, which has Chukwuemeka Uchenna Anthony as her running mate.

An Idoma woman from Benue State, she is aged 48.

In October 2014, as national coordinator of Ward2Ward (Ward-to-Ward), through the grassroots group she founded, she campaigned for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election, and in April 2024, a youth group backed her bid to become the PDP’s National Women Leader.

She then founded the NDP. The party was shortlisted on 11 September 2025 with her as interim chairman, but INEC declined to register it by a letter dated 18 December 2025, leading to a legal battle. A federal high court directed the commission to register the party, which it did in March 2026.

She then emerged as a candidate through a consensus arrangement at the party’s primaries held on 29 May 2026 and was unveiled on 1 June 2026.

2. Nkem Okereke

Nkem Okereke is the second female presidential candidate and will represent the National Rescue Movement (NRM). Her running mate is 35-year-old Sulaiman Nasir Muhammed.

A Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, the 43-year-old emerged as the party’s flag bearer through a consensus agreement brokered by party leaders on May 29. She is also the first woman to secure a presidential ticket from NRM.

Okereke unveiled the “ESTHER Agenda,” describing it as a framework for national rebirth anchored in transformative leadership, economic recovery, patriotism, accountability, and sustainable development.
