Let Actress Niecy Nash’s Acceptance Speech At The 2023 Emmy Awards Inspire You Today!

Niecy Nash’s acceptance speech should be our mood for the rest of the year.

The 2023 Emmy Awards were recently held, and one of the most memorable moments was Niecy Nash’s acceptance speech.

The actress secured her first Emmy win for ‘Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie’ for her work in the Netflix series “Dahmer-Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

She began her acceptance speech onstage by thanking God, her Monster co-star Evan Peters, Netflix, those who voted for her, and her better half, Jessica Betts.

Then the 53-year-old goes ‘And you know who I want to thank? I want to thank me for believing in me and doing what they said I could not do.” which got a rousing applause from the audience. “And I want to say to myself in front of all you beautiful people, Gone girl with your bad self!”

“Finally, I accept this award on behalf of every Black and brown woman who has gone unheard yet overpoliced, like Glenda Cleveland, like Sandra Bland, like Breonna Taylor. As an artist, my job is to speak truth to power and baby, I’m gonna do it until the day I die. Mama, I won!”

Backstage at the Emmy awards, she also revealed why she thanked herself.

“You know, I’m the only one who knows what it cost me,” Nash-Betts said. “I’m the only one who knows how many nights I cried because I couldn’t be seen for a certain type of role. I’m the one who knows what it’s like to go through [a] divorce on camera and still have to pull up and show out. And you still got to go home, and you have children and a whole life.”

She continued, “…And so, I’m proud of myself, I’m proud I did something they said I could not do. I believed in me, and sometimes people don’t believe in themselves, and I hope my speech was a delicious invitation for people to do just that. Believe in yourself and congratulate yourself!”

“Sometimes you have to encourage yourself, and that’s why it is not called ‘Mama Esteem’ ‘Them Esteem’, ‘Us Esteem’, it’s called  ‘Self Esteem’ cos nobody has to believe it but you”.
