Meet Isa Fatima Abiola, Nigeria’s First Female Train Driver As She Shares Her Experience

Nigeria's First Female Train Driver

Isa Abiola Fatima, Nigeria’s first female train driver, has shared her experience in a male-dominated industry.

In a recent interview with BBC News Pidgin, she explained that becoming a train driver was her childhood dream ever since she set her sights on a train at the age of 12.

She received two years of rigorous training in China and also worked as a driver’s assistant for another two years in China.

Isa currently works for China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Nigeria, where she started out as domestic staff and can drive different kinds of trains, including locomotives.

With this feat, Isa joins the league of Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, the first Nigerian woman to drive a car, and Chinyere Kalu, the first female Nigerian commercial pilot.

Back in 2018, she met President Muhammadu Buhari during the commissioning of the Abuja light rail.
