The actress known for her vibrant and hilarious roles has successfully made her mark in the movie and entertainment industry.

Early life

Patience Ozokwor was born on the 14th of September, 1958.

She hails from Amaobo village, Ngwo, Enugu State, Nigeria.

Educational Background

Patience attended the Abimbola Gibson Memorial School, Lagos and during the heat of the political crisis that later culminated in the civil war, she had to relocate to Enugu.

She attended Teachers Training College in Afikpo from where she proceeded to Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu where she studied Fine and Applied Arts. She specialized in Graphics but she never practiced.

Career

Patience was a teacher by training where she taught for about four years before venturing into broadcasting. She was employed as an announcer with FRCN in Enugu.

The veteran actress started acting during her teacher training days in Afikpo, where she was given the role of Hamlet in William Shakespeare’s play of the same title. The play was so good that her team got invited to stage the play in so many other cities in the Southeastern part of  Nigeria.

Chika Okpala (Chief Zebrudaya of New Masquerades) invited her to take part in a commercial in which she played the wife of Pete Eneh. The commercial was a mass orientation promo by the Anambra State Government to encourage her citizens to acquire education before venturing into trading. After the promo was aired, there was a positive reaction from the people and Chief Zebrudaya himself was so impressed.

She was also involved in a radio drama where she took part in a soap opera titled, “Someone Cares” on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) a


Patience rose to fame in 1999 when she starred in a Nollywood block buster titled, “Living In Bondage” . She has acted in over 250 Nollywood movies like “The Wedding Party 2” that has gotten her several awards.

Personal life

Patience got married at 19 and is a mother of 3. She lost her husband in 2000 to a terminal illness. She also adopted 5 children and is a grandmother.

In 2005, Patience Ozokwor won the “Best Supporting Actress Of The Year” at the African Movie Academy Awards.
