TikTok influencer Sara Gilson has died in an apparent murder-suicide involving her estranged husband, barely a week after she went viral for participating in a TikTok trend about a potential Netflix documentary on her life.
Gilson, 43, was reportedly found fatally shot at her home in Owasso, Oklahoma, on July 23, 2026. Her estranged husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, 48, was also found dead in what authorities are investigating as an apparent murder-suicide.
The tragic incident has drawn widespread attention because of a video Gilson posted on TikTok weeks before her death, in which she spoke publicly about disturbing allegations involving her estranged husband.
The TikTok video that went viral
On July 12, 2026, Gilson participated in the popular TikTok trend tagged ‘Netflix Documentary,’ where users share videos of a glimpse of what a future Netflix documentary about their lives might look like.
She shared a video titled ‘Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon-to-be ex-husband who I just found out is a pedophile.’
The video quickly went viral, reportedly attracting millions of views and generating intense discussion among viewers.
Gilson’s post also brought renewed attention to allegations surrounding her estranged husband Duffey, who had reportedly worked as a youth basketball coach. He was also a TikTok influencer using the username DuffDaddy with over 300k followers.
According to reports and court documents, allegations had been made involving a teenage girl. Her family reportedly accused Duffey of inappropriate behaviour and communications with the teenager.
Duffey was not criminally charged before his death, and the allegations against him had not been proven in court.

She had reportedly sought legal protection

On Thursday, July 23, emergency services were called following reports of a shooting. Gilson was found dead, while Duffey was also discovered deceased. The incident is being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide.
According to reports, Gilson is a mother of two from a previous relationship and was said to have been killed in the presence of her children.
