Nigerian music star, Tems emerged as the biggest winner of the night at the 2022 BET Awards.
She snagged two awards; ‘Best International Act’ and also ‘Best Collaboration’ for “Essence” with Wizkid and Justin Bieber.
Tems defeated Dave (UK), Dinos (France), Fally Ipupa (DRC), Fireboy DML (Nigeria), Little Simz (UK), Ludmilla (Brazil), Major League DJz (South Africa) and Tayc (France).
She also made history on the night as she became the first African woman to win in the category.
The BET Awards which honored Black excellence in music, entertainment, and sports held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, on Sunday night, June 26.
In her acceptance speech, she dedicated her award to women urging them to go for their dreams.
Receiving her award, she said:
“It’s an honour… I mean, this is my first award show that I’m winning something and I just want to use this as an opportunity to speak to every single young, old, whatever, every single woman watching this, every single girl watching this at home.
“Where I’m from, things like this don’t happen.”
‘I dare you to get up from your seat and go for your dreams and fight for yourself. If you were waiting for a sign from God, take this at that sign’.
