1.Early Life

Uche was born on July 26, 1984and raised in Nigeria. She completed her primary and secondary school education in Nigeria. She moved to Canada where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, Canada in 2006.

Career

Prior to the creating of her website BellaNaija, Uche worked for Shell in Canada, Cadbury Middle East & Africa Unit in the UK and Cadbury in Nigeria.

In July 2006, she founded BellaNaija. The idea for establishing BellaNaija came whilst she was studying in Canada. She was inspired to start something that represented this exciting young vibe in the country. She began to blog about fashion and celebrity in Nigeria and BellaNaija was born.

She started by scanning magazine articles, pictures and interviews of Nigerian fashion personalities and continued in a low profile way until her BellaNaija portal began to have over 1 million hits every month, at which time she unveiled the personality behind the portal to the media.

Today, the BellaNaija portal is one of the top 100 sites in Nigeria and continues to grow its visitor base.BellaNaija is now a viable commercial social media brand, a household name and a new media force to be reckoned with in Nigeria.

Uche is also a Fellow of TEDGlobal and a Nigeria Leadership Initiative associate. In February 2018,  Uche featured in the annual OkayAfrica100 Women campaign, celebrating extraordinary women from Africa and the diaspora making waves across a wide array of industries, while driving positive impact in their communities and the world at large.


Uche was selected to participate in the 2018 campaign for Bill and Melinda Gates. Uche is passionate about impacting her community and nurturing the next generation. She is also the founder of #BNDoGood, an impact-driven initiative which consistently supports a wide variety of non-profits and social impact organizations including LEAP Africa, Slum2School, Django Girls, Junior Achievement Nigeria and a long list of others. In 2018, Uche co-founded PVCitizen, an initiative to encourage millennials and Generation Z to register to vote and become active citizens.

Personal Life

Uche is married to Bode Pedro, the founder/CEO of Veda Technology and the son of the former deputy Governor of Lagos State. They got married on Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Lagos, Nigeria.

In 2015, the marriage was blessed with a set of twins.

Awards

In 2010 she won Outstanding Contribution to Fashion Communication Award and “The Future Awards Africa” for Young Media Entrepreneur of the Year in 2013 and many other awards.

She also featured on the Oprah Winfrey show “Beauty Around the World”, in February 2010 alongside Jessica Simpson and Lisa Ling.

In 2013, Uche won The Future Awards Young Media Entrepreneur of the Year.  In 2014 and 2015, Forbes Magazine Online listed Uche among the 30 Most Promising Young Entrepreneurs in Africa.

In December 2015, She was listed amongst the Most Influential CEOs of 2015 by Ventures Africa as well as New African Woman’s Women of the Year for 2015 and made the QUARTZ’S List of 30 African Innovators. In 2015, she also won the  Creative Industries Awards Creative Industries Awards for Bloggers.

In 2016, she won the African Blogger of the Year award at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. In 2017, Uche was invited as a civic leader making a difference around the world for the first-ever Obama Foundation Summit and participated in the Stanford Seed Transformation Programme.

In 2018, she won the ELOY Innovation and Invention Award and Best Blog at the Beatz Awards.

She earns up to 30-40 thousand dollars every month from Google Adsense revenue and makes nothing less than N30 million every month from direct adverts, BellaNaija Weddings, promotional and sponsored contents on her blog.
