Nigeria’s very own novelist, Farida Ado who is known for her romance novels -a Mills & Boon novel, which is in Hausa has made us proud by Making TIME’s 2018 “Next Generation Leaders” List.
The author who has been described as “Kano’s Jane Austen” is a romance novelist otherwise known as Littattafan Soyayya (books of love).
Discussing her series “The Block of Ashes,” 32-year-old Farida revealed she was inspired by the story of her neighbour who, trying to solve her marital problems, decided to see a juju priest.

She said:
“I try to reflect the reality of society in my stories. These juju doctors had become a menace in many homes.”
Speaking to TIME, Farida said:
“Women turn to romance novels to figure out how to live their own lives. Every positive example [the reader] gets on how to solve her problems is a plus to society.”
At the moment, she has six books ranging from “forbidden romance, polygamy and inter-generational drama and her books draw inspiration from real-life events too.
