
Professor Nora Daddut, the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, has been elected the first female senator of Plateau State.
She was declared the winner by the Independent Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC) of the Plateau South Senatorial by-election, which was held on Saturday.
Daddut polled 83,151 votes to defeat her close rival, George Daika of the PDP, with 70,838 votes.
She won in four local government areas in the senatorial zone—Shendam, Wase, Quan’pan, and Mikang—while Daika won in the two local government areas of Langtang North and Langtang South.

Here are some facts about her.
1. Nora Daddut was born on the 10th of May, 1953.
2. She was born to the royal family of the chief of Kwalla, the late Musa Shalong, and Bibiana Nada in Qua’an-pan L.G. of Plateau State.
3. She started her educational journey at St. Patrick’s R.C.M. Primary School, Kwalla, in 1960, and her outstanding performance got her a place in the famous St. Teresa’s Girls’ Primary School, Jos before proceeding to the only co-educational Catholic school, Fatima Secondary School, Minna, presently called “Fr. O’Connel Secondary School,” where she held the post of the Senior Prefect (Head Girl).
4. She obtained her first degree in French in 1976 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (Kano Campus)
5. She won the federal scholarship to Université de Bordeaux III, where she bagged an M.A. in French in 1979, and shortly after that, she obtained a postgraduate diploma in education (1982) at the University of Jos.
6. She also obtained a PhD in French from her alma mater in 1991.
7. She is currently a professor of French and head of the Department (HOD) of French at the University of Jos.
8. She set up an NGO in 2004 called Society for Community Concern to help communities utilize their local potentials for self-development.
9. She has worked in different capacities as a school teacher and administrator and holds various leadership roles both at home and abroad. She also has many awards and books to her name.
10. She is married to Mr. John Daduut and has four children.
11. She is a member of the Lady Knights of St. John International and the second vice president in the whole world.
