She was born Princess Khadijat Kuburat Adebisi Edionseri in April 1935 into the royal Elegbede family of Yewa and Egba’Ake in Ogun State. Edionseri began her education at St. Andrews, Ibara, in Abeokuta, which laid the foundation for her future endeavors.
Her Journey into Entrepreneurship
At a young age, Edionseri demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit. By the time she was 10 years old, she had already started venturing into business under her sister’s guidance. This early exposure to commerce played a significant role in shaping her future career.
Her father, the late Pa Sanusi Ajoade Elegbede, supported her early business ventures by providing her with £25 to start her business. This financial backing from her family was crucial in launching her career as a trader.
Career and Business Life
Edionseri gained fame and wealth early in her life, reportedly becoming a millionaire in her 30s during the late 1970s.
Throughout her life, she was a trader and distributor to local and foreign manufacturers. She soon became a big supplier to major agencies of the federal government, including the Army and Prisons across Nigeria
From trading to general merchandise, supplies, real estate, and road construction, she did all kinds of business. She soon became one of the biggest government contractors in the ’80s and ’90s.
Social Influence
She was known for her lavish lifestyle, fashion sense, and philanthropy. Her nickname “Cash Madam” was allegedly given to her by the Juju legend Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey in the 1980s, reflecting her generosity and influence in the music industry.
Many musicians benefited from her support, and she was often celebrated in songs by Fuji musicians. She later became a prominent figure in Yorubaland, particularly in Egbaland and Ogun State, where she held titles such as Iya Sunnah of Egbaland and Iyalaje of Yewaland.
Personal Life and Later Years
Adebisi Edionseri was a devoted Muslim and a community leader. She was married and had children, including Dr. Adebayo Adebowale. Despite her advanced age, Edionseri remained active in social circles, attending parties and maintaining her flair for fashion until her later years.
She passed away on January 5, 2025, at the age of 89, following a brief illness. Her funeral was held on January 6, 2025, in Abeokuta, according to Islamic rites.
She left behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and dedication to her family and community. Her life was celebrated for its grace, dignity, and unwavering faith, inspiring generations with her values of love, resilience, and faith.
Edionseri’s death occurred just a few months before her 90th birthday, which was expected in April 2025.
