33-Year-Old Nigerian, Anne Marie Imafidon Set To Become Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University


Anne Marie Imafidon is set to become the new Chancellor of a university in Scotland.

A British-Nigerian entrepreneur, Dr. Anne Marie Imafidon, MBE, is set to become the new Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University.

At 33 years old, Dr. Imafidon brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role, having made significant contributions to business, mathematics, and technology. Her appointment marks a new chapter for GCU, succeeding the esteemed Dr. Annie Lennox OBE.

Dr. Imafidon’s remarkable achievements began at a young age when she passed GCSEs at age 10. She also became the youngest girl to pass A-level computing at 11 and earned a Master’s degree in Mathematics & Computer Science from the University of Oxford at 20.

Her achievements have earned her widespread recognition, including the prestigious title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2017 for her services to young women and STEM.

Speaking on her appointment, Imafidon had this to say:


“To be welcomed to an institution that stands for the Common Good is one of the greatest honours of my life. I’ve always loved spending time in Glasgow – and look forward to representing Glasgow Caledonian University as it enters a new era. Here’s to the Common Good and to being an ambassador for great ambitions, transformational education and high impact research. I can’t wait to get comfortable in the University tartan!”

Rob Woodward, GCU’s Chair of Court, expressed the university’s enthusiasm for Dr. Imafidon’s appointment, highlighting her advocacy for education and equality. Similarly, Professor Steve Decent, GCU’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, praised Dr. Imafidon’s exceptional leadership and commitment to the university’s values.

Dr. Imafidon will be formally installed during a university graduation ceremony in July.
