Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnanozie Win Big At 2023 CAF Awards

Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie win Women’s Player of the Year, Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year at the 2023 CAF Awards.

Two Nigerian players were big winners at the CAF Awards 2023. Super Falcons player Asisat Oshoala won the CAF African Women’s Player of the Year award for a record sixth time, while Chiamaka Nnadozie bagged the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year.

27-year-old Oshoala, who plays for Barcelona Femeni and has been instrumental in the club’s many wins, beat South Africa’s Thembi Klagtlana and Zambia’s Barbara Banda to win the award on Monday, December 11, in Morocco.

With this win, Oshoala, who made the 2023 Women’s Ballon d’Or shortlist, makes history as the first woman to claim the award six times.

Similarly, Nnadozie beat fellow goalkeepers in the form of Moroccan shot-stopper Khadija El-Rmichi and South Africa’s Andile Olaminiito to clinch the award.

Nnadozie has also been a key part of Paris FC’s success this campaign. She has kept six clean sheets and helped them get a Women’s Champions League qualification for the first time. Reacting to the win, she said:
I am honoured and grateful to have won the AFRICAN FEMALE BEST GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR. This is a dream come true for my family and I. I want to use this platform to appreciate my coaches and teammates for the encouragement and support, and a special thanks to my Naija people.
