Since a dry scalp can prevent hair growth, here are 7 essential oils that are needed for hair growth.

1. Lemongrass Essential Oil

Dandruff can be a common ailment, and having a healthy, flake-free scalp is an important part of hair health. According to studies, lemongrass oil is an effective dandruff treatment.

Lemongrass essential oil is most effective when used daily. Mix a few drops into your shampoo or conditioner daily, and make sure it’s massaged into your scalp.

2. Lavender Essential Oil

The lavender essential oil has a sweet, refreshing aroma. When massaged into the scalp, lavender essential oil improves blood circulation, can prevent hair loss, and promotes hair growth. Furthermore, it moisturizes the scalp, balances sebum production, and is ideal for those who suffer from dandruff.

Mix several drops of lavender oil into 3 tablespoons of carrier oil, like olive oil or melted coconut oil, and apply it directly to your scalp. Leave it in for at least 10 minutes before washing it out and shampooing it as you normally would. You can do this several times per week.

3. Castor Essential Oil

This essential oil belongs on the vanity table of anyone serious about growing their hair. Rich in vitamin E, proteins, and minerals, castor oil works wonders for hair. It has anti-microbial properties, which help with dandruff and also treat scalp other diseases. Also, it improves blood circulation within the scalp, which results in faster hair growth.

4. Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary essential oil has a powerful effect. It’s one of the freshest and most pungent essential oils with its minty and woodsy scent.  Rosemary is packed with antioxidants that can prevent thinning hair and even graying hair. It’s another essential oil that promotes blood circulation, so it’s perfect for stimulating hair follicles and hair growth.

Furthermore, rosemary essential oil can help with greasy scalps and hair as it tones down sebum production. It also clears pores, so it’s great for itchy scalps and dandruff relief.

5. Coconut Essential Oil

Coconut oil has vitamin E, K, and Iron. It absorbs easily into the hair shaft so when used as a pre-poo treatment, it can prevent breakage. It moisturizes the scalp and prevents dryness and mild forms of dandruff. All this makes it a great oil for hair growth.

6. Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil can cause a cold, tingling feeling when it increases circulation to the area it’s applied to. This can help promote hair growth during the anagen (or growing) phase. Studies show that peppermint oil, when used on mice, increased the number of follicles, follicle depth, and overall hair growth.

Mix 2 drops of peppermint essential oil with the carrier oil of your choice. Massage it into your scalp, and leave it on for five minutes before washing it out thoroughly with shampoo and conditioner.

7. Lemon Essential Oil

The lemon peel is full of tiny sacs which contain essential oils. The aroma is intensely fruity, citrusy, zesty, and fresh with wonderfully light, fizzy top notes.

The lemon essential oil is a clarifying and drying oil ideal for an oily scalp. It’s good for treating dandruff or scalp acne.

Furthermore, the lemon essential oil is antiseptic and antimicrobial, which helps to resolve secondary infections that often complicate acne and dandruff. For oily hair, blend lemon essential oil with warm water and use it as a final rinse after washing and conditioning your hair.
