Farida Abdulkabir, a prominent Lagos State socialite, has revealed why she wanted to commit suicide by jumping into a lagoon on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

Abdulkabir, the owner of House of Phreedah, a beauty salon and spa in Surulere, Lagos, claimed disappointments, a failing marriage, and other factors as motivating her action on Thursday night.

In a viral voice message on social media, she revealed that her N100 million marriage to another Lagos socialite, Demola Okulaja, ended after two months.

The fair-skinned socialite was shown being pacified to stop jumping in a video that went viral on Thursday, while rescuers assured her that there was no need to end her life before she was carried away into her vehicle and driven to an unknown location.

As a result of her failed marriage, Farida chose to end her life as she alighted from her black-colored Sport Utility Vehicle on the Third Mainland Bridge and plunged into the lagoon.

After Okulaja walked out of the matrimonial home, Farida said she considered suicide on several attempts.

She said, “Friends and families warned me not to go into the marriage. They told me that the man only wanted my money but I was recalcitrant.

“It was love that pushed me into this. He told me that he was going to be with me, make me bore children for him.

“I am so sorry for putting my children in such a position. I would not have forgiven myself if I had abandoned them after committing suicide.

“I have forgiven my ex-husband. May God provide him with another wife,” she added.
