An Honorary doctorate degree is often given to honor an individual’s contribution to his specific field.

Over the years, a number of female Nigerian celebrities have been bestowed with these degrees both at home and abroad.

From singers, and actresses to media personalities, here are ten Nigerian celebrities that have honorary doctorate degrees.

1. Mo Abudu

EbonyLife CEO, Mo Abudu has two honorary doctorate degrees to her name. Her first honorary degree was from Babcock University in 2014 where she was awarded Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa while her second degree was in 2018 from the University of Westminster in recognition of her services to broadcasting and enterprise in Nigeria.

2. Anto Lecky

Reality star, Anto Lecky was conferred with a Doctorate of Philosophy in Business Administration from ISCOM University in Cotonou, Benin in October 2018.

3. Linda Ikeji

Popular blogger, Linda Ikeji was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree from Trinity International University, Georgia for her work in media in Africa in October 2018.

4. Omotola Jalade Ekehinde

Veteran actress, Omotola Jalade Ekehinde bagged an Honorary Doctor of Arts (D.Arts) from Igbinedion University in 2019.

5. Jaiye Kuti

In October 2021, Nollywood actress, Jaiye Kuti was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Arts from Prowess University in the United States.

Award-winning writer and author, Chimamanda Adichie is a recipient of about 16 honorary degrees from Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Edinburgh, Duke University, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, and the Catholic University of Louvain.
