As Nigerians and the rest of the world grapple with the shocking death of legendary Onyeka Onwenu, tributes to the late singer and actress have continued to pour in from various quarters, one of which includes Nigeria’s richest woman, Folorunsho Alakija.
Onwenu was pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital, Lagos shortly after she slumped while performing at the 80th birthday of Stella Okoli, Emzor Pharmaceuticals’ CEO.
Reacting to the news on social media, Alakija extolled Onwenu who she was friends with for over 40 years.
She wrote: It is shocking, that our friendship of over 40 years has come to an abrupt end. I remember how you would wear my auto couture fashion designs with such grace, and how you supported The Rose of Sharon Foundation’s work for widows, showcasing your immense compassion and dedication.
Your sudden departure leaves a void, but I take solace in our shared memories.
Rest in peace, my dear sister in the Lord. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of all of us.
Rest in perfect peace, till we meet again to part no more.
