How To Keep Your Hair Weaves Looking As Good As New

Hair weaves or extensions are professionally known artificial hair integrations as add length and/or fullness to human hair.

The methods include tape in extensions, clip in or clip on extensions, fusion method, weaving method, and wigs.

One of the major problems lady face with their hair weaves is how best to maintain them after the first use and ensuring it does not lose its lustre.

These are 5 ways you can effectively maintain your weaves.

1. Resist Grease/Oil

When hair weaves are old, you are usually tempted to use oil to make it look shiny and glossy.

Do not use hair cream on your weave.  Try as much as possible not to use products on your weave. If you need to, apply very little amounts and preferably, use water based moisturizers e.g. leave-in-conditioner.

2. Drying

To avoid any foul odour, dry your weave once it is off your hair as often as you can.

3.  Handle With Care

Store your hair properly when it is not in use. Stay away from rubber bands.  They cause tension on the hair strands and promote shedding. You can use a “hair ruffle” or a big hair clip.

Store your weave in a cool, dry place when not in use and it should be kept in a satin/silk bag.

4. Do Not Brush Roughly

Brush your hair weave carefully to avoid shedding. Shedding divides your hair weave to half its original size. Do not forcefully comb your weave.

More importantly, you should own a paddle and a round brush.

5. Deep Condition

A deep condition treatment for your weave after long periods of use is essential.

You should even condition your weave more than you wash it with shampoo. A deep condition treatment softens and moisturizes your hair. You can either use a regular hair conditioner or a deep conditioner.

To get the best results from a deep condition treatment, it should last for at least 15 minutes. You can even put in an extra effort and wrap it in a plastic bag to stimulate some heat and get a better outcome.
