A Simple Guide To Staying Healthy And Fit In Your Forties

Every lady knows how important it is to develop healthy habits especially when they are approaching their 40s.

Healthy habits according to Medical Dictionary is a behavior that is beneficial to one’s physical or mental health, often linked to a high level of discipline and self-control.

These are a few healthy habits you should adhere to as you approach your 40s.

1. Breakfast Is A Must

A solid meal at the start of the day works in concert with metabolism, which is highest in the morning, fueling activity and preventing cravings that arise when blood sugar drops.

2. Frequent Exercise

This helps you keep your bone in place, maintain balance, and avoid injury—important for protecting your skeleton both now and when you’re older. Aim to exercise at least 30 minutes most days of the week.

3. Avoid Stress

Avoid stress as much as you can. If stressed or under pressure,  breathe in through your nose for 4 beats and out for 8 at least twice a day.

4. Regular Protein In-take

Eat meals that contain protein at least twice a day.  It boosts levels of mood-lifting neurotransmitters in the brain, which can help relieve symptoms of depression, like slow thinking and poor memory.

5. Have Fun

Research has it that women with extensive social networks through family, work, volunteer organizations, religious groups, or hobbies have lower blood pressure, less diabetes, reduced risk of heart disease, and half as many strokes as women who are less well connected.

6. Stay Off Meals With High Cholesterol

Avoid meals with high cholesterol. High blood cholesterol on its own has also been implicated in the loss of memory and mental function.

Cholesterol aids in digestion but if you have too much cholesterol in your bile, the excess forms into crystals, and then hard stones in your gallbladder.

7. Regular Check-ups

Going for regular check ups is no fun and it’s not easy but as you age it becomes necessary to do so.

8. Get Enough Sleep

If you don’t get enough sleep, it can cause increased levels of the stress hormone cortisol which can negatively impact your health.

9. Consume Fish Oil

The risk of heart disease is high as you age. Fish oil contains essential nutrients that are important in preventing and managing heart disease.

10. Water

This can never be over emphasized. Water is gold that comes easy. Take lots of it.
