1. Eat a diet that consists of low carbohydrates balanced with fats and proteins.
Fatty food breaks down and create ketones, a byproduct of fat that sits in your stomach and ferments; the odor of ketones then come back up through your esophagus and can stick to your tongue, in essence causing bad breath. That’s why it’s important to infuse healthy food like carrots, sweet potatoes, and fresh fruits into your diet, which balances out the fats and promotes better breath.
2. Eat More vegetables.
As greens promote a more alkaline feel in the mouth, the bad-breath-causing acid in your body balances out.
3. Snack on more apples or any other healthy fruit or food.
The hard texture of apples, cucumber, carrots, etc can remove food caught between your teeth and rub away bacteria that sit on them, creating that rough feeling you get when you run your tongue over your teeth. Hard, crunchy foods most times act like toothbrushes.
4. Drink a lot of water everyday.
Water lubricates your mouth, keeping bacteria at bay, and allows your body function at the right pace. Bottled and can drinks are preserved with citric acid, which not only elevates bad breath but also wears away the enamel on your teeth.

5. Drink less coffee.
Coffee contains high amounts of acids , which can cause bad breath. Tip: Keeping your body at an alkaline level rather than an acidic level will make it function better overall.

It is okay to think flossing is going the extra mile but it’s a very important one. Brushing your teeth helps kill the plaque and bacteria on your teeth, but flossing helps uproot any other thing that your toothbrush couldn’t get to.
If you don’t floss regularly, the food in between your teeth will en up feeding the bacteria in your mouth, and the more nutrients you give the bacteria, the more the bacteria will give off stinky substances that cause bad breath.
7. Clean your tongue.
Bacteria most times stick to your taste buds, then release a waste byproduct that causes a gross stench. Try using a good tooth brush or make sure that you brush your tongue very well to remove any bacteria, byproducts from the bacteria or plaque that could have stuck to it.
8. Rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash that contains a zinc compound.
The most important thing is to always keep your mouth moist, because your saliva helps wash away odor- and cavity-causing bacteria. Alcohol dries your mouth out and leads to more bacteria and eventually bad breath.
It is better most of the time to go for a mouthwash without alcohol or even create your own at home. To use, add 1 tablespoon of baking soda poured into 1 cup of warm water.
