President Joe Biden Nominates Lisa Franchetti As First Woman To Lead US Navy

Admiral Lisa Franchetti is set to become the first woman to lead the US Navy.

Admiral Lisa Franchetti has been nominated by President Joe Biden to lead the US Navy. If confirmed by the Senate, she would be the first woman to hold the position in the Navy’s history, as well as the first woman to serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In a statement on Friday, Biden said: “As our next Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Lisa Franchetti will bring 38 years of dedicated service to our nation as a commissioned officer, including her current role as Vice Chief of Naval Operations,”

“Admiral Franchetti has demonstrated extensive expertise in both operational and policy arenas throughout her career.” She is only the second woman in US Navy history to earn the rank of four-star admiral, and if approved, she will be the first woman to serve as Chief of Naval Operations and on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.”

Currently serving as the vice chief of naval operations, Francheti served as the commander of US Naval Forces Korea, the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Warfighting Development, and the director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy of the Joint Staff.

She has also led two carrier strike groups and became Vice Chief of Naval Operations in September 2022.
