Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has appointed a Professor of Veterinary Medicine as SSG designate
Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo has announced the appointment of Mrs. Olanike Adeyemo, a Professor at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine, University of Ibadan, as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) designate.
The announcement is contained in a statement on Monday, July 24, 2023, in Ibadan by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
Adeyemo boasts of a very robust career profile as a professor of health. She is a woman of many firsts and a recipient of many fellowships.
1. Born July 17, 1970, in Ibadan, Prof. Adeyemo is a Nigerian professor of veterinary public health and preventive medicine at the University of Ibadan.
2. She hails from the family of the late Baale Ladogan of Iseyin, Alhaji Moshood Akanni Salami.
3. She completed her primary education at CAC Primary School, Sango, Ibadan, Oyo State before attending Ahmadiyya Grammar School (now Anwar-Ul-Islam Grammar School) in Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo State where obtained her West African Examination Council results in 1986.
4. She bagged her degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Ibadan in 1994. She also obtained her master’s degree and doctorate degree from the same institution in 1998 and 2005 respectively.
5. After her master’s degree, she started her academic career as a lecturer in grade 2 in 1999 at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of Ibadan. In 2002, she was promoted to lecturer grade 1 until 2005 when she was made an Assistant professor. In 2008 she was made an Associate professor and in 2011 she was promoted to the rank of Professor.
6. Prof. Adeyemo served as the Head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Decontamination and Containment team of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force in 2020.
7. She is married to Biodun Adeyemo Adeyemo and they are blessed with three children.

Her Firsts
She is the first female veterinarian to be inducted into the African Academy of Sciences and the Nigerian Academy of Science.
She is the first Nigerian woman in the field of Aquatic veterinary medicine.
Currently the Deputy Vice Chancellor of research, innovation, and strategic partnership at the University of Ibadan, Adeyemo is also the first person to attain the role at the university.
