Who could ever imagine that in 2019 some women are not allowed to give birth in their own home? Well this is just the case in village of Mamfe Dove located in Ghana.
BBC News Africa visited the village of Mamfe Dove where childbirth, as well as burying of the dead, is banned. According to the elders, giving birth in the land is a taboo and an offence to the gods.
When a pregnant woman is in labor, she’s taken out of the village and allowed to return only after the child is born. She usually has to walk long distances in excruciating pain before she can have her baby.
One of the pregnant women who spoke to the BBC begged that the practice be abolished by the elders.
