Mexico’s Andrea Meza has been crowned Miss Universe 2020.

Brazil’s Julia Gama emerged first runner-up while Peru’s Janick Maceta was the second runner-up.

She was presented the crown by her predecessor Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, United States on Sunday, May 16.

During the question and answer round, the question asked to Andrea was “If you were the leader of your country, how would you have handled COVID with the COVID-19 pandemic?”

To which she answered, “I believe there’s not a perfect way to handle this harsh situation such as COVID-19. However, I believe that what I would have done was create the lockdown, even before everything was that big because we lost so many lives. And we cannot afford it, we have to take care of our people. That’s why I would have taken care of them since the beginning.”

The COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible for the pageant to hold in 2020.

1. Andrea Meza was born on August 12 1994 in Chihuahua city of Mexico.

2. She is the eldest of three girls.

3. She graduated from the Autonomous University of Chihuahua in 2017 with a degree in software engineering.

4. Her pageantry career started after she was selected at the Miss World Mexico 2016. In the pageant, Meza reached the top five and was among the two contestants who were crowned as Miss Mexico 2017.

5. Meza represented Mexico at the 67th edition of Miss World 2017 where she emerged first runner-up.

6. She was also crowned Miss World Americas which placed her within the 2017 Miss World Continental Queens of Beauty.

7. She was crowned Mexicana Universal Chihuahua 2020.

8. She is an activist, focused on women’s rights and inclusion and currently works closely with the Municipal Institute for Women, which aims to end gender violence.

9. Meza is the official Tourism Brand Ambassador for Chihuahua.

10. She is the third Mexican woman to be crowned Miss Universe.
