These actresses were like the core of Nollywood in the 90’s and almost everyone was left glued to their TV sets to watch these favourite acts.

With social media and the current life we live now, it seems almost unimaginable that these divas who helped developed pop culture of Nollywood in Nigeria are laying low and living different lives.

1. Regina Askia

Ex-MBGN Queen, Regina Askia-Williams’s acting break came in 1993, when she played gold-digger Tokunbo Johnson in Nigerian soap ‘Fortunes’  on NTA Network, a role which earned her critical acclaim and roles in Nollywood movies.

The sex symbol glided easily into the movies and made quite a few sizzling appearances. She took some time off but returned in the hit movie ‘Suicide mission’,Most Wanted and other movies.

She has received several awards for her performances – including one for “Best Actress in Nigeria” by Afro Hollywood London in 2000 – and has produced several television shows and films.

She went to become one of Nigeria’s best actress, she relocated to USA after her marriage to an American.

2. Shan George

Prior to debuting in the movie Thorns of Rose, she had previously featured in a 1997 soap opera titled Winds of Destiny. She is best known for her role in the movies ‘Outkast’ and ‘Welcome to Nollywood’.

3. Euharia Anunobi

Eucharia came into limelight for her role in the movie series Glamour Girls in 1994 and has gone on to star in over 90 movies including Abuja Connection and Letters to a Stranger.

4. Rita Nzelu

Rita Nzelu is an actress, known for her amazing roles in the movies- “Long John 2 (2002), Long John (2002) and Ortega and His Enemies (2014)”. She returned to Nigeria in 2006 after her long stay outside the country.

5. Sandra Achums

Sandra Achums is an actress popularly  known for her roles in the movies Deadly Affair (1995), Domitilla (1996) and Ashanti (2003).

She relocated to Germany after her marriage.

Susan came into limelight when she acted in Sakobi, a movie produced by Zeb Ejiro. She became prominent in movies taking in most of the movies produced by both Zeb and his brother Chico Ejiro.

Alexandra López, commonly known as Alex Lopez is a Brazilian-Nigerian actress and former model, who is best known for her starring role as a lesbian in Zeb Ejiro’s 1996 controversial movie Domitila. In 1993, she was second runner-up in the popular beauty pageant, Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria.

8. Tricia Esiegbe

The scary movie “Samadora” was what brought Tricia to limelight. She later became a talk show host with the launch of her show ‘Bold Faces’ which focused on celebrating the lifestyle of footballers.
