This Is How To Prepare Delicious Nigerian Pepper Stew In Less Than 20 Minutes


Nigerian pepper stew is an incredibly versatile stew made with sweet bell peppers. Pepper Stew, popularly called ‘Obe Ata Din Din’ by the Yorubas is a Nigerian stew prepared with only peppers.

This stew is so versatile, it can be paired with numerous dishes like Boiled rice, Boiled or fried Yam and Plantain, Potatoes, Pasta, and bread.

This post will show how to prepare this delicious stew.

Ingredients

1.10 Red Bell Peppers (Tatashe)

2.3 cooking spoons vegetable oil

3. 1 tablespoon red palm oil

4. 2 medium onions


5.500g of beef and shaki (optional)

6. 3 pieces of dry fish (Mangala)

7. 1 disc of iru, ogiri or dawa dawa

8.2 spoonful of grinded crayfish

9. 1 tablespoon Nigerian curry powder

10.Salt (to taste)

Directions

  1. Soak and debone the dry fish.
  2. Clean and cut the shaki into medium pieces.
  3. Dice one onion and slice the other.
  4. Wash, remove the seeds from the tatashe.
  5. Blend all the peppers till smooth
  6. Boil the beef and shaki with the diced onion till done.
  7. Pour the blended peppers in a pot and boil till all the water evaporates.
  8. Pour the vegetable oil into a clean dry pot and heat it up.
  9. Once very hot, pour the palm oil to give the bleached effect.
  10. Add the sliced onion and stir for about half a minute.
  11. Add the boiled pepper and fry (stirring from time to time) until there is no trace of water in the stew. You will also notice that the stew is streaked (see video below).
  12. Add the crayfish and iru or ogiri blend, dry fish, beef, shaki, curry powder and salt to taste.
  13. Stir very well and it is done!
