Ministerial Screening: Why Senate Is Yet To Confirm The Nomination Of Stella Okotete, Two Others

THE SENATE on Monday failed to confirm the nomination of Stella Okotete, one of Delta State’s Ministerial nominees.

Immediate past governors of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir EL-Rufai and Abubakar Danladi were also not confirmed.

Forty-five ministerial nominees out of 48 nominees forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have been confirmed.

Speaking after the confirmation of the 45 nominees, Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio, revealed that Okotete and two others have not been cleared by security checks.

Akpabio said: “El-Rufai and two others have not been cleared by security checks.”

Nigerian lawyers write to Senate, demand disqualification of Stella Okotete

This comes one week after some top Nigerian lawyers had called for the immediate disqualification of Okotete, a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) as ministerial nominee citing allegations of corruption and funds misappropriations.

The lawyers in the letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio titled “Appeal For An Urgent Action,” based their petition on disqualification of appointment as a honorable minister-designate on the pending case before the Federal High Court.
