Serena Williams Has Refused To Celebrate Her Daughter’s 1st Birthday For This Reason

It’s been almost a year since Tennis star, Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian Sr, welcomed their daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr on September 1, 2017.

It, therefore, comes as a surprise that the first time parents will not be celebrating this milestone. Seeing as it’s their first child and the whole motherhood journey has been quite an experience for Serena herself.

When asked how she’ll be celebrating Alexis’ 1st birthday at a press conference at the US Open, Serena replied:

“Olympia doesn’t celebrate birthdays, We’re Jehovah’s Witnesses so we don’t do that.”

Serena told Vogue last year about what the religion meant to her.

“Being a Jehovah’s Witness is important to me, but I’ve never really practiced it and have been wanting to get into it. Alexis didn’t grow up going to any church, but he’s really receptive and even takes the lead. He puts my needs first,” she said at the time.
