Interesting Facts About Simone Biles, The First Woman to Ever Win 4 All-Around World Titles In Gymnastics


2018 has really been an amazing year for women in many industries from fashion to the arts and even in sportswomen the world over a are making giant strides.

21-year-old American Gymnast, Simone Biles has joined the ranks of these women as she emerges as the first woman in history to ever win 4 all-around world title in Gymnastics.

Team USA reports that this would the eighth time in a row that an American has either won the world or Olympic all-around title. This means that Biles is responsible for five of those consecutive wins, as she has never lost a championship.

Here are some notable facts about this sports champion you should know.

1. Simon Biles was born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio she is 21 years old.

3. The sports champion spent all her secondary education as a homeschooler and graduated in the summer of 2015.

4. Biles is Catholic, and also holds a Belize citizenship through her mother. She refers to Belize as being her second home.

 

5.  Biles first tried gymnastics at 6 years old as part of a day-care field trip. At age 8, She began training with coach Aimee Boorman 

6. Biles began her career on July 1, 2011, at the 2011 American Classic in Houston. She placed third all-around, first on vault and balance beam, fourth on floor exercise, and eighth on uneven bars.

7. In December 2015, Biles was named Team USA Female Olympic Athlete of the Year, making her the fourth gymnast to win the honor.

8. In 2016, she was chosen as one of BBC’s 100 Women. She was also one of the finalists for Time magazine’s 2016 Person of the Year.

 

9. In July 2017, Biles won the ESPY Award for Best Female Athlete. She is the second gymnast to win this award after Nastia Liukin won it in 2009.

10. In November 2018, Biles made history by becoming the first woman to ever win 4 All-Around World Titles in gymnastics.
