
Sinach is an award-winning Nigerian gospel singer and songwriter who has been able to touch lives worldwide through her songs.
Here is a brief profile of her.
Early Life
She was born Osinachi Joseph Kalu on March 30, 1973, in Lagos, and she hails from Ebonyi State. She is the second daughter of seven children.
She graduated from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, with a degree in physics. She was advised against relocating from Nigeria after her university education by Pastor Oyakhilome.
Career
Sinach started singing for family and friends in 1989 as a hobby while working as a staff member and choir member in Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s church. She released her first album, ‘Chapter One,’ in 2008.
She has released 9 studio albums and written over 300 songs, some of which include Waymaker, I Know Who I Am, Awesome God, All I See is You, More of You, Jesus is Alive, This is Your Season, amongst others.
“I Know Who I Am” is her most popular song yet and stamped her name as a leading gospel artist.
She has performed in several countries, including Kenya, Dominica, South Africa, the United States, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Uganda, Barbados, Zambia, the United Kingdom, and India.
Awards

She was the first recipient of the LIMA Songwriter of the Decade Award in 2016. She won the African Achievers’ Award for Global Excellence and was the Western Africa Artist Of The Year by Groove Awards in Kenya, and was listed by YNaija as one of the Top 100 Influential Christians in Nigeria also in 2016.
In 2017, she was inducted into the Bethlehem Hall of Fame, joining Dwayne Johnson, Pope Benedict XVI, and a host of other internationally recognized celebrities on the list.
On 7 March 2019, Sinach became the first gospel singer from Nigeria to get over 100 million views on a single video on YouTube and the third Nigerian to achieve that feat, next to Davido and Yemi Alade. She achieved this with her song, ‘Way Maker.’
In September 2019, she became the first gospel artist from Africa to tour India, headlining concerts with thousands in attendance.
Sinach is the first singer-songwriter to top the Billboard Christian Songwriter chart for 12 weeks in a row.
Her song “Way Maker” bagged three nominations and won the Song of the Year at the 51st GMA Dove Awards, making her the first Nigerian to win the award.
She also won the BMI Song of the Year, and in 2021 was recognized by the US Congress while on tour in the United States of America.
Personal Life
She got married to John Egbu, a pastor at Christ Embassy, in June 2014. They welcomed their daughter, Amyoli Mbilase, in 2019 after five years of marriage.
