Following his victory in the 2024 presidential election, US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed his campaign manager, Susie Wiles as his Chief of Staff. Her history-making appointment makes her the first woman to ever hold the position at the White House.
The Chief of Staff, a pivotal role, acts as the president’s gatekeeper, managing White House staff, organizing the president’s schedule, and liaising with other government departments and lawmakers.
Calling her the “winner campaign manager,” Trump said, “It is a well-deserved honour to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history.” “Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected,” he said in the announcement his campaign posted on X.
On Wiles’ role in his campaign, Trump said, she “just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history”.
Fondly called the “Ice Maiden” ” the 67-year-old will resume office as the 32nd White House Chief of Staff in the second Trump administration set to begin in January 2025.
Who is Susie Wiles?
Born May 14, 1957 and raised in New Jersey, Susie Summerall Wiles is an American political consultant. Her father was Pat Summerall, a former National Football League(NFL) player and sportscaster. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
Her political career history includes:
- Campaign scheduler for Ronald Reagan’s 1980 presidential campaign
- Chief of Staff to John Delaney (1990’s)
- Advisor to Mayor of Jacksonville, John Peyton (2004-2009)
- Campaign Manager to former Governor of Utah Jon Huntsman Jr.’s presidential campaign (2011)
Her work for Donald Trump includes running the Trump campaign’s operations in Florida in the 2016 presidential election. In March 2021, Wiles was chosen as CEO of Trump’s Save America PAC.
Wiles was one of Trump’s two campaign managers alongside Chris LaCivita in the run-up to the 2024 presidential elections.
