A Biography On Tola Odeyemi, Nigeria’s First Female Postmaster General


On Monday, October 16, 2023, the new Postmaster General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer, of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Tola Odeyemi assumed office.

With her appointment, she became the first female to hold the position since NIPOST came into existence in 1995.

President Bola Tinubu relieved Adeyemi Adepoju as CEO/Post Master General of the agency last week Wednesday and replaced him with Odeyemi.

However, there was mild drama on Monday when staff members locked the entrance gate of the agency’s headquarters in Abuja in protest of Odeyemi’s appointment.


Tola Odeyemi is an experienced engineer with over 15 years of experience spanning technology, public policy, and governance both in. the public and private sectors.

Here are some facts to know about her.

1. Omotola Odeyemi was born June 31, 1980 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

2. She attended Adesoye College, Offa, Kwara State.

3. She studied Electrical Engineering at Morgan State University before proceeding to George Washington University where she obtained a Masters in Systems Engineering.

4. She also has a professional certification in public policy from Harvard University.

5. Odeyemi began her career as an intern with Accenture in 2004.

6. She was an assistant manager, at the Office of the Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria between 2011 and 2016.

7. She served as a two-time special assistant to the former Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, between 2016 and 2019.

8. In August 2019, she joined Uber’s ride-hailing company as Head of Public Policy, a position she held for two years.

9. She was Head of Government Relations, in Sub-Saharan Africa at Binance before her appointment by President Tinubu.
