Peter Odili’s Daughter Appointed Rivers State Commissioner For Health + 13 Things To Know About Her

Medical doctor and public health specialist, Dr Adaeze Oreh has been appointed Commissioner for Health in Rivers State.

She took to Twitter to share the news of her appointment with the caption: I am honoured to share my new role as the Commissioner for Health in @riversstategov. Thankful for the trust reposed in me by His Excellency @SimFubaraKSC and the good people of Rivers State.


Here are some things to know about Adaeze Oreh.

1. Adaeze Chidinma Oreh was born on July 19, 1979, in Benin City, Edo State.

2. Her father, Peter Odili, a medical doctor was a former governor of Rivers State while her mother, Mary Odili was a former Supreme Court Justice.

3. She is the eldest of four children.

4. She received her primary education at The Play Pen Child Development Centre in Port Harcourt and her secondary education at the University Demonstration Secondary School, University of Port Harcourt.

5. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2003 from the College of Medici, University of Nigeria, Nsukka before commencing her internship at the Braithwaite Memorial Specialist Hospital of the Rivers State University.

6. She proceeded to get a degree in International Health Management at the Imperial College Business School of the Imperial College London after the completion of her National Youth Service Corps.

 7. Adaeze Oreh also holds a master’s degree in Public health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

8. She volunteered with the Federal Ministry of Health for about seven months, after she completed her master’s degree.

9. She was appointed Programme Coordinator of the Abuja Centre of the National Blood Transfusion Service, a position she held for five years between 2009 and 2014.

10. She also contributed to the revision of the country’s National Blood Policy in the National Health Act of 2014.

11. She is a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians and a Member of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in Family Medicine and is certified in Leadership and Management in addition to Safety and Quality in Healthcare from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, University of Washington and the University of Bath.

12. She is also a 2019 Aspen Institute New Voices Fellow.

13. She got married to Patrick Oreh in 2014 and they are blessed with two children.
