Angel Ukairo-Agunbiade’s Story Of How She Became An Author At Age 15 Is Inspiring

Angel Ukairo-Agunbiade, a 15-year-old girl in Year II at Grange School Lagos was recently celebrated nationwide after she wrote a book which contained 50 inspirational quotes.

Angel who listed writing, dancing, abstract drawing as her hobbies has also won various awards in Sports.

She had an interview with Guardianng and here are some excerpts below:

Talking about writing the book

“I am the author of 50 Inspirational Quotes, a book I was inspired to write after compiling various quotes on success and good living constantly taught to me by my mum.

I wrote the book in April 2017 at the age of 14, a few months before I turned 15. It took me four months to completely decide which quotes to include and the direction the book would take.”

When asked how sales has been

I have sold over 500 copies of the book at a value of over N1.million and this has been sold solely by me. People’s reception of my book has been extremely overwhelming and I am really grateful for this.

The book is not yet in bookshops, so I take it directly to the buyers. The book has been bought mostly by bankers. The retail price of the book is N2000. However, people give me more to encourage my work.

Since the quotes are mainly on success and good living, many of the people who buy my book buy it as a gift for their children, cousins, nieces, nephews and grandchildren to motivate them.

The buyers are particularly impressed by the quality of the book and my ability to compile such wise quotes at a young age.

On her aspiration

My aspiration is that I’d like to have my own business and impact my mates positively. I’d really like to be a big time Entrepreneur as I admire Tony Elumelu and Dangote who are my role models. My encouragement comes mainly from my mum and those who have picked up the book.

As a writer, finding a network of reliable sellers to sell the book all over Nigeria and beyond is my greatest challenge.

I intend to attend the EF Academy in New York after my secondary school studies at Grange School. I also intend to head to Ivy League University. While schooling I want to establish my own business and hone my writing skills.

I am not writing any book for now as this one came out in April and I am yet to give it extensive exposure it requires, so I’m basically working on that. I am in my final year at Grange school, Lagos, therefore I’m concentrating on my studies to get good grades to enable me get admission into the school I want.

On the advice she has for young kids

My advice to kids my age is this: “Whatever talent you have, try to work hard on it and with great passion. There is no limit to the age in which you can be successful, start now!”
