Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter Album Makes History At The 2025 Grammys

Beyoncé Makes History At The 2025 Grammys

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter makes history at the 2025 Grammys after winning her first-ever Album of the Year Grammy for Cowboy Carter.

With this win, she becomes the first black woman in the 21st century to win the night’s most coveted award since 1999, when Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill took the title. The singer, who is the most awarded Grammy artist in history, went into the 2025 Grammys with 11 nominations, where she continued her award-breaking streak by winning three more awards.

The award was presented by Taylor Swift, marking a milestone moment for both Beyoncé and the country music genre. Swift also successfully switched genres and previously beat Beyoncé to the Album of the Year prize in 2010.

“I just feel very full and very honoured,” she said. “It’s been many, many years.”

The singer dedicated her award to Linda Martell, one of the pioneers for black musicians in country music and the first black woman to perform solo at the Grand Ole Opry (Ms Martell features on several of Cowboy Carter’s songs).

“I hope we just keep pushing forward [and] opening doors,” Beyoncé continued. “God bless y’all. Thank you so much.”.

Earlier in the evening, Cowboy Carter also won the Grammy for Best Country Album. A stunned expression shot across the 43-year-old’s face as her name was read out.

“Wow, I really was not expecting this,” said Beyoncé in her acceptance speech, thanking “all of the incredible country artists” who had voted for the prize.

She also won Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “II MOST WANTED” featuring Miley Cyrus, making her the first Black woman to win a country Grammy in 50 years, previously won by the Pointer Sisters in a similar category in 1975.

This brings her total number of Grammy trophies to an unprecedented 35.
