Good skin care begins with cleansing. If you are not cleansing your skin properly, whatever else you do after that would be rendered ineffective. Hence, it is very important to learn how to properly wash your face and also to know if you have been doing some things wrong.
Here are 5 signs that you have been washing your face wrong.
1. You are not double cleansing
If you wear makeup regularly or you live in an area that is highly polluted and you notice that your skin is not as glowy or acne free as you want, it is probably because you are not double cleansing.
Double cleansing is when you go in with a face wash and then follow up with a toner that thoroughly cleans your pores. Makeup can penetrate the pores so if you are not deep cleansing at night, you might still have some residue on your face.
2. You scrub too hard
This is one face cleansing mistake that many women make. Scrubbing too hard can increase your chances of getting wrinkles and scars. When cleaning your face, make sure you do not use a tool that is too abrasive as this can cause small tears on your face.
It can also reduce the elasticity of the skin and this can cause you to look older. Instead, scrub gently using your fingertips in circular motion.
3. You re using the wrong cleanser for your skin type
Cleansers are formulated according to specific skin types for a purpose. If you have dry skin and you are using a cleanser that is meant for oily skin, this can cause you to encounter some issues.
Ensure that you buy skincare products according to your skin type to get the results that you want to see.

4. You don’t wash twice a day
I know that we can sometimes get too tired at night and just use a facial wipe to remove our make up. The facial wipes do little to actually cleanse your skin. It just removes the bare minimum which is what you see on the surface.
Try to wash your face twice daily with a good cleanser that is suited to your skin type morning and might. This would help to keep your skin looking plump and bright.
5. You are using hot water
This one very big mistake that can damage your healthy skin barrier. There is a difference between using warm water and using hot water. If you are washing your face with water that stings, then you should please stop that.
Instead, use warm or room temperature water to cleanse your skin. Hot water strips the skin of its good oils, thereby causing dryness. This dryness can make your skin overproduce oil to protect its barrier and I am sure you do not want skin that feels dry but looks oily.
6. You don’t wet your face before washing
Water helps to hydrate and open the pores, thereby making it more accepting of the cleansing agent you plan to use. Cleansing your skin is already a stripping process that you don’t want to worsen by not wetting your face first.
Before you wash your face, wet it with some water and leave for about 5 to 10 seconds before lathering up your cleanser.
7. You don’t rinse well
When you wash your face, make sure you thoroughly rinse off the cleanser. A good way to know that you have done is by touching your face to feel if it is still slimy. Rinse the face gently and for even better results, splash cold water on your face after washing to tighten and close your pores.
