I’m An Extremist, I Love So Hard — Funke Akindele Opens Up

Everybody Loves Jenifa’ Series

Popular actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has said she approaches relationships with extreme intensity, admitting that she loves deeply but can completely cut people off.

She made this known on Wednesday during an appearance on The Morayo Show, hosted by Morayo Afolabi-Brown, where she spoke about her personality and how she manages friendships.

“I’m an extremist. I love so hard. I’m real. I’m like this. I’m not perfect. I can be troublesome. Yes, I can be. I’m tough,” she said.

Akindele was reacting to Afolabi-Brown’s observation that she operates at two extremes—either loving deeply or cutting people off completely. She admitted this is true but said she is working on finding a balance.

“Morayo, I must say, I’m not proud of that, and I’m proud of it. There must be a balance,” she stated.

The actress credited filmmaker and friend Uzee Usman for helping her recognize some of her blind spots.

“You see, this one, number one, the way this boy is doing no good. But number one, you be leader. You go there, accept people as they be. No be every door you go, they close, number one. You go just leave them, put them for a place. And for the first time I sat down, I was quiet.”

Akindele also spoke about the challenges of being a celebrity.

She said, “As sweet as I am, I’m very strict. It’s really lonely at the top, and if you want to remain at the top, you have to be guarded and disciplined. It’s going to be very boring because you won’t have any friends. I’m very disciplined to the extent that sometimes I’m afraid of myself.” “Scandals will come; temptations will come. You can’t have it perfect, but you have to keep your head up,” she concluded.
