Miss SA 2024: South Africa’s Culture Minister Also Speaks On Chidinma Adetshina’s Eligibility

Chidinma Adetshina Withdraws

It seems the controversy surrounding the eligibility of Nigeria’s Chidinma Adetshina at the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant may not be ending any time soon as the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton Mckenzie has waded into the ongoing debate.

Recall that in the past few weeks, the 23-year-old has been the subject of xenophobic backlash online over her participation owing to her origin.

Born in Soweto, Adetsina is the product of a Nigerian father and a mother of Mozambican descent.

The outrage further intensified when a video of the 23-year-old wearing a Miss SA 2024 sash and celebrating with the Nigerian members of her family surfaced online further sparking outrage with many South Africans calling for her to be disqualified from the competition.

Responding to a user on X, Mckenzie who is known for his outspoken views on social media reacted by saying he would get more information regarding the issue.

“I just returned from Paris and will definitely get more information. We truly cannot have Nigerians competing in our Miss SA competition. I want to get all the facts before I comment, but it gives funny vibes already,” McKenzie tweeted.

With this latest response from Gayton Mckenzie and Chidinma Adetshina in the top 11, the criticisms have become more intense as she moves closer to the crown.
